Online stores offer nearly every product you would ever want, and many of them offer significant discounts. If you are new to the world of online shopping, there are a few things you need to know to make the most of your experience:

1.    Before you add that blue sweater to the online shopping cart, be sure you search online for other stores that may sell the same sweater. You may find a better price or perhaps a lower shipping price. Either way you will save money.  

2.    Check the return policy on all products you buy in an online store. Be sure you know whether you can return the product, how long you have to return it and whether you have to pay shipping on the return. 

3.    Make sure you can get the item by the time you need it. If you are willing to pay additional shipping charges you can get overnight delivery but the item may not be in stock. So if you really need the product the next day you will not get what you need.

4.  Be sure the online store includes customer service contact information by phone and by email and even, on the best sites, live online support. Check the hours of customer service to be sure they will be available if and when you need help.

5.    If the online store is not a known brand name, check the web site for signs of reputation and dependability. How long has the company been in business? What warranties, guarantees or customer references do they offer? Is the price of the product unbelievably low? If so, that may be a clue that the quality will be poor.

6.    Is the online shopping cart secured? If the site employs an encryption or security system they will post a security logo or other information to let you know your contact and credit card information are secured. Most online stores provide this kind of security today but you can never be too careful and it pays to check on this kind of thing.

With a little care and some common sense, you can ensure that your online shopping experience is positive and that the products you buy will meet your expectations.
